Michael gave his first solo recital at Poole Arts Centre aged 14. He has since gone on to play all over the UK as well as in France, Germany, America and on British Television and Radio, all to critical acclaim. Despite his busy teaching schedule Michael is still an active performer giving recitals and concerts on a regular basis. His repertoire features a mix of the old and the new giving a very balanced programme which seasoned guitar lovers and new comers can both enjoy.
Concerts regularly feature works by Renaissance composers such as John Downland and Gaspar Sanz, extracts from the lute and cello suites of J. S. Bach, the piano transcriptions of Isaac Albeniz and Enrique Granados, the folk song arrangements of Miguel Llobet, the South American flair and passion of Heitor Villa-Lobos, Antonio Lauro, Astor Piazzolla, Maximo Pujol and of course Agustin Barrios through to the works of contemporary composers such as Andrew York, Ben Verdery, Nikita Koshkin, Peter Maxwell Davis, Leo Brouwer, John Duarte and Milan Tesar.
